Following Emily's widely accepted release Middletown, Triggs is busting down walls that confine an artist to expectations and to the folk/roots genres with her album The Great Escape.

Emily’s natural talent was honed in Quebec, her mother a dancer in the folk troupe Les Feux-Follets, her father, Stanley Triggs, a folk singer whose songs that can be found within Smithsonian Folkways. The youngest of five growing up in a mix of English and French culture, it was in living room jam sessions with local and visiting musicians that Emily learned the history and art of lyrical composition and performance.

After studying music in Montreal she lived in West Virginia where she immersed herself in the Appalachian side of folk. Nominated for a Folk Music Canada Award 2021 and WCMA Roots Artist of the Year 2021, she takes you on a journey through inspirations and experiences that have shaped her alt-country/roots sound.

There are a few specific reasons why Emily Triggs titled her new album The Great Escape, the main one being that the 13-song collection represents a break from old ways of thinking that the Montreal-born, Calgary-based Americana singer/songwriter says have held her back both artistically and personally.

With her new material, Triggs set out to challenge herself by ignoring any genre restrictions, and the result is her most honest and empowering album to date. The Great Escape was produced by longtime Neko Case collaborator Paul Rigby, who also played a multitude of instruments on the album. Also contributing to the sessions in Vancouver were engineer/multi-instrumentalist Dave Carswell (Destroyer, The Evaporators), bassist Darren Paris (Frazey Ford), drummer Geoff Hicks (Colin James) and engineer Erik Nielsen (City and Colour).
